Sometimes there are so many ideas occur to you, drive you to the computer, to the pens, papers but shit, you can't write because it is in the middle of your class. You have to listen to the instructor and write down the note if you don't want to drag your ass around and grovel someone for their notes. It happens this morning to me in middle of my plant biotech. Three great ideas pop out of my head, and I really want to write about them. However I will have to save the other two, because I want to spend more time for my f*&%king GRE test studying and also, for the gym.
Today in the class, we were talking about cancer. It's not only one of my favorite subjects but also it's the subject that most of my classes this quarter are about. While we were talking and discussing about cancer, an old thought which I had never written down before occurred to me. It is not a scientific thought but mostly philosophical, makes me think a lot and forces me to put aside the great idea about critics God, Christianity and the movie Knowing. You can ask now: "Wat the F&%* is going on in your twisted mind?" Once again, it's cancer. I decided to compose this journal to analyze why human is such a great cancer to the earth. Then I will go on and break down what we are doing to try to solve our problems in life and finally raise a great topic that might later become a great field for future researchers.
I - Enviromental Oncology.
What is cancer you might ask me? We are composed of many cells which are regulated strictly under many mechanisms so that they can work properly to give us strength, energy, wisdom and pleasure. Cancer happens when one of those cells realize that:"Oh shit, why do I have to follow the rules. Fuck the rules, I am going out and kick some fuking ass." Then they go out smoke, suck, fuck and enjoy their freedom life. In scientific term, they are proliferated. Those cells keep going on and on to replicated in one area, sometimes kill off other "good obeying" cells until suddenly one day they see that the local area that they live in does not have much fun anymore; they then have to find another place to go, new drugs to try, new girls to fuck. That is basically what happens in cancer.
Cancer is the term that we mostly use for human, but it happens quite often in nature. We see natural tumor cancer in frogs, mouse, horse and even plants. When we apply the term cancer widely to another bigger scope, we can see that the earth, our planet also have cancer and we, human - Homo sapiens, are the cancer cells.
If we look around us and observer the life of others part of nature without human interaction we will see that everything is worked in perfect order. The trees grow and the deer eat their leaves. The dears get eaten by the tiger who gives back the organic substance to help the young trees grow. That is the great picture of order before human came. When we were pure part of nature, we do the same things as they do. We obeyed the law of nature, followed the path that we must have taken in order to survive. However, one day, on the judgment day we became cancerous to the earth. We have our consciousness and began to think, began to realize that we were something greater than the nature around us, that we could manipulate it. Then we started to grow selfishly, and slowly destroyed the earth. Dams were built to change the flowing path of water, trees were cut down to build up our new buildings, animals were killed more than what we actually need, and a whole messy civilization was borne and built on the withering earth. Human became something that is not part of the developmental body. We become the cancer cells which the immune system of the earth fail to detect and destroy, if it actually has one, stand up against all the part of nature and live selfishly for our own good.
II - Oncogenesis
Where and how all that happened you might ask. We are so busy to try to fix the problems of the earth which we made to see the real reason. The earth is dying and so the faith of Homo sapiens. That's why we want to fix it, undo whatever we have done. However just like a cancer cells, there is no going back. When you are get out of the obedience of the earth rules, when the telomerase of the earth is malfunction and adding the telomere to our specie earth DNA, the p53 of the earth lost its function, no human repressor genes are made, there is no going back. But how all that happen? How can we be not suppressed by the p53, a tumor repressor gene, anymore? It was all begin with the day we gained our consciousness; we saw what other animal could not. Our consciousness gives us the spiritual life, the fear of nature and from there the craving to conquer it.
Instead of meeting each other every few month, following the pheromone and mate to each other seanonally, our consciousness gave us love, partnership and the need of sex. When we understand how we can get such a tiny piece of heaven every time we ejaculate, we want to do it quite often. And now, we have more than 6 billion people in this world, killing each other and also the earth.
Instead of hunting and gather enough for our survival, consciousness gives us the aesthetic recognition, the ethos of life which makes us hunt more, kill more, harvest more live nothing but the devastation of the ecosystem behind us.
Consciousness makes us great, takes us out of our animal form, and yet gives us more troubles. If you do not know what love is, what greed is, you just do what nature teaches you to, then there would be no trouble. Let’s take a second and think about it, compare it to the nature world, to our most related brother the chimp. They mate, they live together, but never love. The male and the female follow each other simply just to raise the children, protect them and follow the rules of nature. They mate when the season comes, and somehow knows when to stops. They do not have the love for their kids, at least not like us. That is what nature tells them, and makes them follow. Even in human, back to the old days, the Eskimo left the old ones and even the young kids out in the snow to let them die, just in order to keep the balance of food supply. However another scenario occurs to us with our consciousness. We do not mate to season anymore, or gather food just to help us pass our hunger. We have love, with love along come the need to help the one we love not to die. Medicine was invented, human can now live longer that we should, and reproduce more than we could. The balance of the earth is smashed into pieces, defaced like an old can. That is when the oncogene repressors are lifted off, that is when we in fact become cancerous.
III - Oncological therapy
How do we fix it? How do we give back the balance of the earth that we destroyed? How can we go back to be part of the world? How can we stop being selfish? The answer is that we can not. But there is a solution, my solution. Building more habitats in certain ratio for what we have destroyed is not such a great idea. Conserving the endanger species is quite useless, it is like a pain killer we use to depress our pain of guilt, since they have no place to live, not control on the fate. We cannot even completely control our fate therefore what makes us so confidence that we can help to control other animal’s fate. Let’s take an example. There was not much prediction for the earth quake in Italy which leaded to more than 200 deaths. There was no strong warning for the tsunami which killed thousands of people in Thailand. What would happen, if the habitats we built for the endanger species, or the conservation area sudden get erupted by a fire, an earthquake or a flood. The species will officially become extinct. It is rather not the give danger to a species than try to save the endangered ones.
There is quite not perfect solution that human can use to balance the earth along with our cancerous civilization. Even though, the only way that we can lets the earth go back to the way it was is to make us somehow, become normal again. As I stated above, the root of all our problems is from the proliferation of our consciousness and its derivatives. Therefore the only way that we can treat the earth, is somehow knock out our consciousness and bring us back to be natural again. Researchers are looking for the formation of the earth, solar systems, but not our consciousness. Psychologists investigate so many psychological problems to treat them but not how to vaccinate them. Several cases in psychology show that we some people with brain damages lose their consciousness, like the classic case of the rail road man who got a hard metal sticks shot through his head. Other cases show the wolf girls who cannot be turned back to human again. Those are the cases that we need to look at. We should look for the formation of our consciousness, figure how it form, and how to destroy it without giving damages to relative areas. May be it's in our brains; maybe it's in our genes. If everybody lost their consciousness and come back to nature like chimps, which are 99% genetically the same as us, nature will have the way to get us back, balance its metabolism and fix itself like it has done millions of years without the "human cancer cells".
However, who would do that? Who would want to lose their consciousness because may be there is no one wants to become slave of others. And also you might be asking yourself that, if we lose our consciousness, how would we know, your plan will work? I really do not know, because I am also a selfish cell.
